CHARLIE HANSEN
Charlie Hansen, the old, distinguished host of
Bluegrass Island.
"Hi. I'm Charlie Hansen and along with my co-hosts Roger Wightman and Serge
Bernard we would like to welcome you to BLUEGRASS ISLAND. The show will air
every Wednesday evening at 8:oo o'clock on CFCY Radio in Charlottetown, P.E.I.,
Canada. We will be broadcasting all the latest releases as well as a great blend
of roots bluegrass and a generous helping of Canadian content. As well as
this venture into broadcasting I write a monthly column for a local
entertainment magazine known as the "Buzz" A link to the "Buzz" as well as a lot
of other related links are available on this page. BTW my column is called
"Country Prose". I have played Country and Bluegrass music for over forty years
with my first exposure to music being the fiddle and guitar music of the early
to middle fifties. My first organized band, "The Thunderbolts", was put together
to play for one dance in 1962 and it and several off shoots lasted well into the
seventies. I moved to Toronto in 1970 and played with a number of commercial
rock bar bands before settling into my first country band, "Chef Adams and The
Adams Boys". From Chef's band I went on to play for four years with the best
female country singer Canada has ever produced bar none, "Diane Leigh". Diane
was named Canada's top country female vocalist five years in a row and, in my
mind, is still the greatest female country vocalist in Canadian history. I
have played on a part time basis since I returned home and am presently involved
as a life member of the P.E.I. Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society."
We would like to thank Charlie for being among the first to play Williams & Clark Expedition.
